Introduction
Action Training Systems, Inc. produces multimedia
training programs for firefighters and first
responders. The company provides e-learning
solutions to meet the intense demands of firefighting
skills training and certification requirements.
Challenge
With an inventory of training programs that were
designed on an older course delivery system, ATS
needed to upgrade to a system that would provide
crystal clear full motion video courses to meet the
high performance expectations of its customers.
Web based training, with its inability to support full motion video,
wasn’t an option. The Intranet however, held immense potential.
With networking capabilities improving and storage capacity growing,
ActionTraining realized they needed to quickly update all their training
programs to reflect the new standards in the marketplace.
Solution
“Full motion video is a critical component in
e-learning development,” stated Patsy Sander,
Instructional Designer for Action Training. “Iluminar
helped us update our older modules and continue to
develop excellent interactive training programs.
“We took advantage of the ability to edit full motion
video using MakeIT™. It’s one of the most valuable,
powerful features of ILMS, and it’s why we will
continue to use this learning management system.
“With MakeIT™, we’re able to attach audio files to
graphics and text and add graphic images to our test
questions and answers. And that design feature not
only provides you with unlimited flexibility, but it
provides an incredibly rich experience for the learner.
“This has allowed us to take what we already know
about the power of full motion video in the learning
experience, that a picture speaks a thousand words,
and apply it to our interactive courses.”
Results
“Iluminar authoring tool has allowed us the ability to
create image rich content that our customers can
install on their networks.
One customer recently shared that his company
cut 20 hours of classroom time down to three hours
using our courses. His students had learned and
retained the material so well they were able to
perform the newly learned skills on the training
ground in a much shorter time then they would have
with traditional classroom training.”
