SYMPTOMS
When installing ILMS 116 and targeting a pre-2005 SQL Server AND the Iluminar Admin database does NOT already exist (that is, it is to be created during the install), the creation of the Admin DB may fail.
In such cases this uninformative error message will be displayed:
The installer is unable to continue for the following reasons: The installation script in ITInstall.Xml is improperly formed
CAUSE
Important note: The error message referenced under \"Symptoms\" can occur for several reasons, of which the current issue is just one example.
Please do not assume that if the above message is observed that the current issue must the *the* issue.
A database creation script included with the install media is not compatible with versions of Microsoft (tm) SQL database managers earlier than SQL 2005.
This will not impact typical installs (either clean installs of the product from 116 media, nor upgrades), as in former case the DB manager installed by the ILMS SW will be SQL 2005 Express, and in the latter case the admin DB is not (re)created because it already exists.
RESOLUTION
If you are installing ILMS116 clean (that is, not as an upgrade) AND you are installing into an existing SQL Server of version(s) prior to 2005 AND the Iluminar Admin database does NOT already exist in the Server, please follow the procedure just below.
If you are not confident performing these steps or would like assistance or clarification, please contact Tech Support before attempting the install.
- Copy the entire install CD wholesale into a convenient folder on a hard drive on the target machine
Locate the file admin1.xml in the copy of the install media on the hard drive
Change the attributes of the existing admin1.xml in the copy of the install media on the hard drive so that it is read/write
Download the updated copy of admin1.xml here: http://www.iluminartechnologies.com/files/admin1.zip
Unzip the above updated copy of admin1.xml and copy it to the location of original admin1.xml, replacing the original copy with the updated version
Locate Setup.exe in the root folder of the copy of the install media on the hard drive and double click on it
From this point forward the install should proceed as usual

Failure to follow the above procedure when installing ILMS 116 to use a pre-2005 SQL Server AND in the case the Iluminar Admin database does NOT already exist will trigger an install failure.
